Is 1xBet legitimate in Nigeria?

What the licence is actually worth

The narrow question, whether 1xbet.com holds a licence that exists on a regulator's own records, has a clear answer: yes. The wider question, whether that licence gives you usable protection, has a much worse one. Both need setting out separately, because the brand's defenders and its critics each quote only one of them.

What verifies

1xbet.com is operated by Caecus N.V., company registration number 163779, incorporated in Curacao at 17, Chuchubiweg, Willemstad (Terms of Service, clause 1). Licence OGL/2024/1262/0493 appears on the issuing regulator's own material twice. The Curacao Gaming Authority certificate endpoint sets out the licensee as Caecus N.V., the domain as 1xbet.com, and the status as active.

The CGA online gaming licence registry, updated 20 August 2026 carries it as entry number 462, against licensee Caecus N.V. and registration number 163779, class B2C, expiry N/A, status recorded as indefinite.

Turn to the CGA Enforcement Register dated 10 July 2026, the schedule of licences that have been revoked, suspended or allowed to lapse, and neither the company nor this licence number is on it. Judged on the registers by themselves, the flagship domain is in order.

Three discrepancies that belong on the record

• Two grant dates. The certificate states the licence was granted on 07/11/2024. The register records an issue date of 24 December 2025, exactly a year after the National Ordinance on Games of Chance took effect, and the registry is headed as covering licences granted under the online gaming policy effective 15 November 2023. The likeliest reading is an original grant followed by conversion or renewal under the new ordinance, but nobody has said so, and the operator's terms still print the 2024 date.
• The wrong statute. Those terms give the regulator's name as the Curacao Gaming Control Board, and the governing law as the offshore games of hazard ordinance at P.B. 2024, no. 157. Both descriptions are wrong on the regulator's own regulation page, which sets out that the authority is now titled the Curacao Gaming Authority, that the 2024 publication reference belongs to the ordinance on games of chance, and that the offshore statute is the legislation this one replaced. The operator is describing its own regulator and governing law incorrectly in the document that binds its customers.
• A stale label. Secondary write-ups still credit 1xBet with a Curacao eGaming licence, a designation from the master-licence era that predates the current framework (Wikipedia). The primary evidence above supersedes it.

Entities, and which one holds your money

The corporate picture is deliberately fragmented, and each fact attaches to a different company. Caecus N.V. operates the flagship domain. The App Store publisher is 1XCorp N.V. (App Store, Nigeria storefront).

Deposits are processed by two Cyprus companies named in the rules, Exidna Enterprises LTD and Evrianassa Enterprises LTD. The Irish product sits with Terminus Platform Ireland Limited on remote bookmaker's licence 1019276 (Revenue Commissioners register), and the Brazilian one with DEFY LTDA, cleared to run 1xbet.bet.br under Portaria SPA/MF no. 1.666, dated 29 July 2025 (Brazilian authorisation schedule).

The 400,000 EUR Dutch fine of 2019 landed on two further companies, 1X Corp N.V. and Exinvest Limited, over unlicensed play offered through 1xbet.com, xbet-1.com and no fewer than 83 further gambling sites; the appeal against it was dropped, leaving the decision irrevocable (Kansspelautoriteit).

For the rest of the domain estate no operating entity is documented at all, and the brand's own India blog explains that mirror addresses exist to get around regional restrictions (1xBet mirror guide).

The regulatory record around the licence

No UK licence exists. Asked for details of a 1xBet licence, suspension or ban, the Gambling Commission would neither confirm nor deny that it held anything, relying on section 31(3) of the Freedom of Information Act (Gambling Commission FOI response).

What is documented from 2019 is that the UK-facing site ran on a white label, that access was blocked voluntarily, and that the Commission opened an investigation after press allegations (SportsPro; Inside World Football).

Elsewhere: Ukraine's regulator cancelled the local licensee's licence in September 2022 and closed further branded sites (iGaming Business); Ukraine's anti-corruption court confiscated more than 2 billion hryvnia from a payments company whose beneficiary was identified as associated with the brand (Transparency International Ukraine); Italy lists the domain on its blocking schedule (ADM blocklist document); Colombia blocked associated sites (Mundovideo); and Sri Lanka blocked 1xbet.com on 6 August 2026 (Gaming Intelligence).

Investigative work adds scale and integrity findings, including a group estate of more than a thousand sites and around 4 billion EUR of crypto flow (Follow the Money), amateur matches streamed for betting including one featuring 14 year olds (Bellingcat), and the head of the Copenhagen Group describing the operator as unafraid to operate illegally (Byline Times).

What recourse you actually have

Independently, the Trustpilot profile for 1xbet.com stood at 1.8 out of 5 from 9,022 reviews on 22 August 2026, while the UK profile displays no score at all under a breach of guidelines heading, with 9,030 reviews behind it.

A suppressed rating is a different fact from a poor one: it is the review platform judging that its rules were broken, and the reason has not been published. Against all of that, your formal remedies are an internal complaint within six months, an ADR body that the rules promise but never name, and a complaint to Curacao. That is thin protection for a licence that does, technically, verify.
