Is Rainbet legitimate in Nigeria?

What the licence is actually worth

Rainbet is a real operator with a licence number that checks out and no meaningful protection behind it. Both halves of that sentence are evidenced, and the second half is the one that matters when something goes wrong.

The licence does verify

Querying the issuer's register with ALSI-152406029-FI2 returns a single row: company RBGAMING N.V., status valid, type b2c, issued 14 June 2024, expiring 13 June 2027, domain rainbet.com ( Anjouan Gaming licence register, checked 22 August 2026). We report that as a positive result, because plenty of offshore claims fail this test.

One caveat: a commercial monitoring service that cites this same register reports the expiry a year earlier, in June 2026. The renewal date is therefore in dispute between two sources drawing on one register, and we take the register page itself as authoritative.

What the issuer is worth

An investigation into the Anjouan licensing network reports that none of the licences issued there, financial or gambling, "are worth the (virtual) paper they are written on", that the licensing company claims more than 1,300 gambling licences at around 17,000 euros per licence per year, that a corporate services firm in Costa Rica took out the register's domain name in May 2023, and that the site names not one director, board member or business address.

A former attorney-general of the Comoros called the licensing company "an illegal entity".

The same report records that the offshore authority cited as the source of this licensing power was stripped of recognised regulator status by Comoros banking laws of 2013 and 2015, and that the Comoros central bank described such structures in 2023 as "fictitious structures" with "no physical or legal existence" that "operate online via websites to scam people" ( ABC News).

Le Monde reports that the so-called gaming commission website is in fact run by a private company and that the parent authority is fictitious according to the Comoros central bank. Applied directly to this brand, a regulatory report notes Rainbet claims a licence from that authority while the central bank calls it fictitious ( Casino Guardian).

The corporate record and the contradictions

The operator is RBGAMING N.V., incorporated in Curacao as a limited liability company under number 163051, with its registered office given as Zuikertuin Tower, Zuikertuintjeweg, Willemstad ( Rainbet AML policy). Not one director or beneficial owner is identified on any Rainbet page.

Clause 26.6 applies Curacao law to the contract, and clause 14.2 puts a ceiling on everything the company can owe you: the total staked through your account, or EUR 500, whichever is smaller ( Rainbet terms and conditions).

A Curacao company holds no Curacao gaming authorisation here; no such number is printed on the site, and none turned up on a regulator's own register. Clause 1 names an Anjouan licensor while clause 21.6 sends complaints to "Gaming Services Provider N.V."; the complaints policy names only an internal Compliance Manager ( Rainbet complaints policy). Three documents, three destinations, none of them independent.

Attention from real regulators

It has arrived, but so far it has landed on promoters rather than on the operator.

An Australian media authority spokesperson said Rainbet "has taken steps to prevent Australian access to its services" while restating the exposure faced by promoters, which runs to AUD 59,400 for an individual and AUD 2.4m where illegal services are linked to ( Guardian Australia), following earlier coverage of promotion around the Australian Open ( Guardian Australia).

An Ad Standards ruling in 2026 found an Instagram post promoting the brand breached the wagering code, and trade coverage named it among the most prolific brands in illegal influencer promotion ( AdNews).

Ireland's gambling regulator has confirmed that both operating and promoting an unlicensed operator breach Irish law, with unlicensed bookmaking carrying up to eight years imprisonment ( Casino Guardian).

No penalty, suspension or formal notice with the brand or its operating company as respondent could be found published by a regulator itself, and the domain is absent from the blocked-site lists we checked ( ACMA action report, July to September 2025).

Your recourse, then: the operator's own complaints team, and after that nothing with the power to compel a payment. The site pays for visibility, from a Counter-Strike 2 jersey deal ( Esports Advocate) to a streaming platform category sponsorship ( Bitcoin.com News) and fighter ambassadors ( iGamingToday, Fightful).

Visibility is not oversight, and a famous face on the shirt does not create an appeal route.
